Help Myself Charitable Trust, CC60646, was registered in New Zealand in June 2020. It came from a desire to help others find their own resolve to their own issues, and in doing so, build up their self esteem, find closure to matters that hold them back, and enhance their mental and emotional quality of life.
Administered by Joel Lee and Helen Hewitt, they have chosen to serve their community through sharing their own experiences of how they have overcome mental health challenges and a personal need for legal protection.
In February 2020 Joel graduated from a 1 year Odyssey House Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation program. During this time he dealt with his own personal mental battles and relationship dysfunctions, as well as changing his perspective on life through modified behaviours. Joel also qualified in the Peer Support Program. His desire is to share his experience to encourage others in their journey.
In May 2020 Helen pursued, through self representation, legal proceedings to protect herself from harassment. Property Relationship matters and matters under the Care of Children’s Act are also areas where Helen has sucessfully navigated. She’s also experiences with applications to the Disputes Tribunal as well as the Tenancy Tribunal, being successful in all her claims.
Believing there are many other men and women in our community who, like herself, do not qualify for Legal Aid and find the cost of legal fees prevent them being able to take action, she seeks to encourage others to navigate their own way, by sharing her experience and knowledge.
